The Personal Vision Workbook Reviews

"The depth of coverage is very impressive. The authors really challenge students to think and to do serious self-exploration and analysis. The carefully-guided activities are very thought-provoking and will cause students to really think about themselves and to do in-depth self-analysis. The depth and breadth of this text are impressive. I think this text is in a league of its own in terms of its scope. I really haven't seen or reviewed any other texts that provide this quality of self-exploration. I thoroughly enjoyed the self-awareness activities and often became deeply involved during my review."

"The personal vision workbook has made me really look at my future in a more positive way. I have core values that I never thought of before. My goals in life have been looked at in a more positive way and I plan to achieve them no matter how long it may take me to do so. This book is great for college students and really looks at the positive things in life."

“I suffer from ADD (diagnosed three years ago) at the age of 40. I have learned since, many solutions to ADD-related issues are intertwined with proper awareness and planning. I have done my best to educate myself but I have found this book to be more effective than most when I apply the activities to combat my ADD. The book is effective because the activities encourage implementation and continual measurements. It brings focus and simplicity to the areas I wish to work upon, allow me to create a successful vision, and the measurements to ensure my progress.”

"I found the writing style approachable and easy to read. Inviting. I found the concepts to be well explained and thought provoking. For example, this chapter on Cultural Identity - is really about subculture. This is a good discussion of how we are co-responsible for our cultural beliefs because of the choices we make. I liked the range of topics on the values-sort cards, the wonderfully creative ideas such as the 'intellectual transcript' the 'job interview of your life' and the observation exercises with the TV sound off. I like how this workbook underscores personal responsibility. The work is the individual's. Where we are is the product of our choices and our culture/society. I believe this workbook is one of a kind. I LOVED many of the unique and creative exercises throughout the book. Though I do not teach a specific course on 'values', I incorporate it into other classes which I teach, as a topic on the syllabus."

"The personal vision workbook has taught me to identify what i value in life in why. I have learned what kinds of values are reflected in my day-to-day existence. I have also become more tolerant of many things. I have learned that tolerance is an important part of life, especially in a college environment. I have also strengthened my views on how life can be unfair at times. I accept the fact that things can be hard at times and it is so important to not let your guard down. Be persistent and march on."

"The three greatest strengths of this project are: 1) the comprehensive/holistic overview of the exploration of the various identities explored, 2) the in-depth personal exploration and self-awareness activities, and 3) the structured guidance through the material. I believe a significant part of students' success is based on the foundation of their attitude, self-awareness, motivation, and vision/planning. I would definitely consider this text."

“This book has made me take a closer look at what is important in my life and how to better integrate those beliefs and values into my present and future life. “

“The Personal Vision Workbook has made me realize things about myself that I never really looked at before. I gained knowledge about my interests, qualities, what I like and what I don't, and my values. I found out my weaknesses and my strengths, and how I could possibly help myself grow with my weaknesses. I learned about what I look for in a job including the people and the type of job and what others thought of my dream or perfect job would be. For me I know that I would need some change in the everyday work environment so I would not become bored. My perfect job would be a place where everybody helped each other out and were very friendly too. I would want people to ask me for help and be a good role model for my employees. Overall this was an experience that was new to me, and I found out a lot about myself. I learned things that I can work on and things that I do that are good. I think that this activity helps to show you the type of person you are and who you want to become.”
